The Spanish Food and Drink Industry Federation (FIAB) and Alimentaria Exhibitions have renewed their collaboration agreement to promote the Alimentaria 2020 Trade Fair, one of the most important events for the food and drink sector, which will be held 20-23 April at Fira de Barcelona.
Both organisations are thus continuing the work and support of previous editions through actions which highlight the internationalisation and innovation of the food and beverage industry, as the country’s leading industrial sector. Furthermore, for the first time, this year the FIAB will dedicate a space to the sustainability of the sector.
“Alimentaria is an essential meeting for the Spanish food and beverage industries, a showcase from which to promote innovation, internationalisation and business collaboration. Alimentaria is a space to show the world the strength and quality of the Spanish industry, as well as to share knowledge and also to reflect on sustainable development,” said Mauricio García de Quevedo, director general of FIAB.
For his part, J. Antonio Valls, director of Alimentaria, stated that “in this edition, Alimentaria’s international focus is strengthened, and for this reason we will once again have the collaboration of the FIAB, whose support is essential for providing value to the show and continuing to promote the internationalisation of the Spanish food and beverage industry. In this way, we hope to increase Alimentaria’s enormous potential as a platform for generating global business”.
A showcase for the sector’s internationalisation and innovation
FIAB comes to Alimentaria to highlight the strategic value of the sector and its vital importance for the socio-economic development of our country. For this reason, the Federation and Alimentaria have designed a complete programme of activities aimed at making these values visible and converting the exhibition into a centre for the projection of innovation and internationalisation as the main axes of competitiveness for the sector.
Thus, FIAB will develop ALIBER, a fundamental scenario for R&D&I in the sector, where the challenges and opportunities faced by the industry in terms of innovation will be addressed. This programme will take place in The Alimentaria HUB space and will bring together professionals from the sector in R&D&I meetings, international conference cycles and conferences aimed at exchanging knowledge.
The exhibition will also be the setting for the Ecotrophelia España 2020 Awards, the Europe-wide competition for university students which rewards the creation of eco-innovative products. There will also be visits to industries, as well as a gastronomic tour of the Fair with innovation as the main theme.
Within the internationalization, FIAB will have in this edition the pavilion grouped gourmet exporters Excellence of Spain, which was born with the idea of being a meeting point between public and private institutions, national and international, as well as associations of the Federation and industry companies.
The Federation will also collaborate with Alimentaria and ICEX in the Hosted Buyer program for international buyers.
An Alimentaria which is committed to dynamism and sustainability
As a novelty in this edition, FIAB will include within its activity a day dedicated to sustainability, where national and international speakers will present the progress of the sector in this area, in line with its commitment to the objectives of sustainable development.
The future of plastics and sustainable agro-food systems will be some of the topics to be discussed at this conference, which will include representatives from industry, distribution, NGOs and the European and national administration.
