United for Sustainability

In order to reduce the environmental impact of our trade shows and make more sustainable events, at Alimentaria and HOSTELCO we carry out different actions.

We are aware that it is necessary to implement sustainable measures to fight climate change aiming to set an example for our sector

Towards Zero Impact (TZI) is a project that contributes to the implementation of all kinds of measures in relation to sustainability, both on an environmental and social level, in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs set an agenda of goals for the year 2030 and aim to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.

Register your sustainable initiatives

Are you an exhibitor? Have you implemented good practices and sustainable actions in your business?

Alimentaria & HOSTELCO will reward your efforts at the event. Join our goal of turning the event into a platform to showcase the sector’s sustainability and commitment to the SDGs, and stand out as an exhibitor that implements best practices in these areas.

Zero Waste and Recycling

Zero Waste is an initiative that aims to generate less waste during events and its recycling. Among the actions developed in this area, we highlight:

Installation of recycling islands for the separation and selective collection of waste into 4 fractions

Delivery of garbage bags for waste separation at the stands

Collaboration with Ecovidrio for the collection and management of glass waste

Digital press points at The Alimentaria Hub and HOSTELCO Speakers' Corner

Badge, lanyard and pass holder collection at the exit of the venue

All media printed on recycled paper with the FSC label

Make your participation in the fair as sustainable as possible.

Consult the Sustainable Participation Guide that we put at your disposal so that you have at hand all the necessary information to make your visit to Alimentaria & HOSTELCO sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Zero Plastic

Zero Plastic is an initiative that focuses on the reduction and elimination of all types of single-use plastics throughout the venue:

Cardboard pass holder

Disposal of single-use plastics in restaurants (bottles, cutlery, plates)

Public transport discount

To reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and encourage the use of public transport to move around the city, we offer a 10% discount on the purchase of the Hola Barcelona Travel Card.

Innoval rewards sustainability

Innoval, the Alimentaria space where the most innovative products in the sector are presented, has a new award for sustainability. In this exhibition, you will find everything from the healthiest, most nutritious and organic natural ingredients, to suggestive combinations of flavors and textures, more practical packaging or revolutionary formats… If you want to know more about Innoval, click here:

Food collection

In the fight against food waste and for the recovery of the surplus of the trade show, we reaffirm our collaboration with the Fundació Banc dels Aliments. Their volunteers will be promoting their supply programme, designed to manage the stocks of food from the agro-food industry that is consumable but not marketable, and which can be distributed to people in a precarious food situation.

Recycling of glass containers

During the fair, ECOVIDRIO will collect empty bottles to ensure their recycling. A team of ECOVIDRIO professionals will regularly pass by the stands to collect glass bottles that are empty of liquid.

Recycling glass is a key element in the fight against climate change, giving a new life to these containers and minimizing the emission of CO2 in the manufacturing process, saving energy and avoiding the growth of landfills.

ECOVIDRIO, the non-profit organization responsible for managing the recycling of glass packaging waste in Spain, collected more than 12 tons of glass packaging waste during the last edition of the Barcelona Wine Week, the equivalent of more than 27,000 bottles of wine.
