A Growing Market, A Global Opportunity

The halal consumption segment is experiencing significant growth in Spain, across Europe, and globally. This trend reflects the increasing Muslim population, their growing purchasing power, and a rising demand for products that are increasingly sophisticated, innovative, and inclusive.

    A Growing Market

Currently, the Muslim population represents around 8% of the European population. Forecasts for 2030 indicate that this proportion will reach 10.3% in France, 10.2% in Belgium, 9.9% in Sweden, 7% in the United Kingdom, and around 4% in Spain.

The European halal food market is experiencing substantial growth, with a projected value of USD 1.09 trillion by 2033 and an expected annual growth rate of 10%, according to various studies.

Sectors such as meat and meat derivatives, ingredients, bakery and confectionery, sweets, beverages, ready-to-eat products, dairy, and HORECA are already adapting their offerings to this consumer segment.

Alimentaria has been committed to the halal segment since 2016. In its 2026 edition, Alimentaria hosted the IV International Halal Congress, a space for analysis, trends, and business opportunities.

    Tuesday, 24 March

Show Stage 1, The Horeca Hub

In response to the evident growth in demand for halal gastronomic offerings in restaurants, hotels, and collective catering in major cities worldwide, Alimentaria has been showcasing diverse cuisines adapted to Muslim consumers since 2016.

As part of the Alimentaria 2026 halal programme, two showcookings will take place: one featuring Moroccan cuisine and another showcasing Catalan cuisine, both adapted for Muslim consumers.

Renowned chefs will prepare a variety of dishes from these two rich culinary cultures, carefully selecting ingredients and preparation methods to respect halal requirements.
